We can help you bring back quail. Our selection of shrubs for the "covey headquarters" include Indigo Bush, American Beauty Berry, Silky Dogwood, Buttonbush, Rough-leaved Dogwood, Hazelnut, Shrubby St John's Wort, Deciduous Holly, Wild Plum, Fragrant Sumac, Smooth Sumac, Golden Currant, Blackberry, and Elderberry.

We have native grass and wildflower seeds, including a ten species Quail Mix. We encourage folks to use our 25+ species Deep Soil Wildflower Mix, if they want to benefit more than just quail. For details on how to plant native grasses and wildflowers, see Seeding Wildflowers & Native Grasses on this site or in our catalog.

Why Promote native plants in addition to quail:

Every species of native plant and animal, no matter where in the world, is here today because they have survived a very long genetic trip through geologic time. Since its beginning, a viable reproducing population of each species has always been alive to pass on the genetic material that makes it distinct from other species.

Now that the human species has gotten the upper hand on Planet Earth, we have the ability to determine which of the remaining species will continue the journey through time with us. Every day we make land use and management decisions that exclude native species from the land. We often make these decisions without the knowledge and awareness that we can easily live with most native species. They all need our help.

If you have your sights set on quail as the species to invite to your property, it is possible to attract them using only exotic or non-native species. However, why not invite as many native plants as possible that were likely on your property before European settlement? The native animals that depend on these plants for their existance will begin to show up, quail included.

A decision to include quail on your land is a decision that can inlcude a full spectrum of native biodiversity. You can help many native species continue their genetic trip through time with us, instead of just one species.
